Victor Wanyama opens up on 'tough' Tottenham spell as Dele Alli poised to return

Here is your Tottenham morning digest for Wednesday, February 10.

Wanyama opens up on difficult Spurs spell

Victor Wanyama has spoken about his difficult spell at Tottenham following four years at the club before his move to CF Montreal (then Montreal Impact) last year.

“Life was tough under Mourinho. I was not playing. I was injured for some time and when I came back I could not get a chance," he told Radull Live Show.

“I walked to the coach (Jose Mourinho) and told him I needed to play. He said ‘you have to wait, you are just coming back from injury’.

“Clubs came in for me and asked to take me on loan with an obligation to buy after some time but Tottenham said no.

“I walked to the chairman’s (Daniel Levy) office and told him to understand my situation.

“I had been at the club for four years and we had celebrated milestones including (making it to) the Champions League final. He granted me my wish (to leave).

“When Thierry Henry called me and asked me to join him at Montreal, I couldn’t say no.”

Alli could be set for return

Tottenham fans may be about to get their wish with Dele Alli set to return to action for the first time in a month.

Failing to play since his role in the 5-0 drubbing of Marine in the third round of the FA Cup, the 24-year-old is in line to make his return to the Spurs squad for Wednesday's cup tie away at Everton.

Certainly not fit enough to start after only just recovering from a tendon injury, Mourinho confirmed at his pre-match press conference that he believes his player can take his place on the bench.

Much has been made of Alli's future in north London over the past few months following his lack of first-team football, but the head coach is now hoping that all the speculation finally comes to an end after a January exit didn't come to fruition.

"Nothing changed. He's not injured. He's not injured, he can train with the team. He went through a process of not training and trained with the sports science people and then jumped to teamwork which he did yesterday for the first time," said the 58-year-old in his pre-match press conference.

"Nothing changed, what maybe changed is the speculation around him because in this moment everybody knows that he's a Tottenham player and he doesn't go to any place. So probably the end of the speculation and will be end the questions.

"He can train and he can try to help the team because this is what we want. It's what we need. We need players to help the team."

Redknapp on Spurs' top four hopes

Harry Redknapp believes that Tottenham will be fighting it out for the final Champions League place come May.

“Tottenham have had a difficult year. I still think they have a fantastic squad and a good group of players," said Redknapp when speaking ahead of the Betfair Hurdle in a call with Great British Racing.

"It was a good win against West Brom and I think they could push for the top four. They have a brilliant manager and whilst their form has taken a little dip, Harry Kane coming back on Sunday and scoring shows how important he is for the team and he could maybe lead them to a top-four finish.

"At the moment the top four will probably be Man City, Liverpool, Manchester United and then either Leicester, Chelsea or Tottenham in my opinion.”
