Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has spoken for the first time about the breakdown of his move to Club Brugge.
The 28-year-old has fallen well down the pecking order at Spurs, following a series of knee problems. Spurs brought in new midfielders in Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso.
Then there are Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Eric Dier, with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen also about to play in the centre of the pitch and Wanyama has found that even 19-year-old academy midfielder Oliver Skipp is getting into matchday squads ahead of him.
Wanyama was close to a summer move to Belgian side Club Brugge during the summer to link up with former Beerschot team-mate Philippe Clement, who manages the Brugge.
However, the move fell apart late in the window and the Kenya captain remained at the north London club.
"For me, I am a professional player and sometimes you have to wait until everything is done," he is quoted as saying by All Africa.
"Things were good but unfortunately the transfer didn't happen. But I have to put my head down and work hard in training to be back on top form. I will keep working and wait for my chance in the team."
Wanyama has played just 23 minutes of Premier League football this season and got 90 minutes under his belt in the EFL Cup as Spurs lost at Colchester United on penalties.
