'Victor Orta up to his old tricks' - Leeds United fans go nuts as Diego Llorente transfer nears

Leeds United fans have been full of praise for the Whites' transfer approach after advanced talks with Diego Llorente were revealed.

The Real Sociedad defender has not been linked with the Whites at all this summer, with Liverpool being credited with an interest in him earlier in the transfer window.

But Leeds are now understood to be in advanced talks over a move for the 27-year-old centre-back.

It led many Whites fans to praise the club's approach to the transfer window.

Despite already landing Robin Koch this summer the Whites are keen on landing another defender.

A move for Dinamo Zagreb centre-back Josko Gvardiol appears to have fallen through, with the teenager instead closing in on a transfer to RB Leipzig.

Instead, Leeds have gone after Spanish international Llorente.

The former Real Madrid youth product was linked with a €45m move to Liverpool earlier this summer as a potential replacement for Dejan Lovren.

That move never materialised and, whilst Llorente has a release clause of between £40m and £50m in his Real Sociedad contract, it is likely that Leeds will pay less than that amount.

Llorente is an attractive prospect to Leeds thanks to his ability on the ball, which means he can also play as a defensive midfielder.

A deal is said to be close for Llorente, who joined Real Sociedad for £5.5m in 2017.

West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United were linked with Llorente 12 months ago, with Leicester City also credited with an interest in the right-footed centre-back.

Earlier this summer, Ligue 1 club Monaco were also heavily linked with the former Malaga loanee.
