Victor Orta sends brilliant message to the Leeds United players after Premier League promotion

Leeds United's director of football Victor Orta told the Whites squad he did not want a single drop of champagne left at Elland Road if the club secured promotion back to the top flight.

That's according to Leeds striker Patrick Bamford.

The Whites had their place in the Premier League confirmed after an absence of 16 years last night.

Huddersfield Town's 2-1 win over Leeds' promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion ensured the Whites were promoted back to the top flight.

The result prompted celebrations across the city - and the Leeds players themselves partied at Elland Road as fans gathered outside the stadium to help mark the momentous occasion.

And Bamford revealed what the Whites director of football told the players before full-time at the John Smith's Stadium.

The Leeds players ended up at Elland Road to watch the Terriers against the Baggies.

And according to Bamford, Orta told the players that he did not want there to be a drop of champagne left at the stadium if the Whites' promotion was confirmed, which it duly was.

Bamford told Football Focus: "I think all the boys secretly organised to go and watch the game at the stadium and I think we all went there thinking West Brom are going to win and we’re going to have to go and do it all on Sunday.

"We were a bit surprised, to be honest, and then it kind of went from one thing to another and I remember Victor Orta came in before the game finished and was like ‘if we’re up, I don’t want a single drop of champagne left in this place!’

"It was pretty crazy and you can imagine all the fans started gathering and it was good leading chants outside. It was a nice night."

Marcelo Bielsa's side are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they head to Pride Park to take on Derby County in their penultimate game of the season.
