Victor Orta outlines his admiration for Mateusz Klich after midfielder signs new contract

Leeds United's director of football Victor Orta has explained why he is so happy to see Poland international Mateusz Klich commit his future to the Elland Road club.

Klich, who was a key figure in helping Leeds reach the Championship play-off semi-finals last term, scoring 10 goals along the way, has put pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half year deal.

The 29-year-old joined Leeds in June 2017 and has been a key component in the United team ever since Marcelo Bielsa took over the reins at Elland Road 12 months later.

Speaking to Leeds United's club website, Orta explained: "It’s true, Mateusz was my first signing at Leeds and a really important one.

"The first season was character building for him - he went away on loan, worked hard and came back to show anyone who had doubted him that he is a top player and that is something I admire.

“Even after Marcelo arrived, he had a lot to do to change some people opinions and it took an injury to Adam Forshaw in pre-season last year for Mateusz to get his opportunity and he took it amazingly.

“He’s gone on to become a really important player for us and I’m delighted that he’s committed to spend the best years of his career with us."

To date, Klich has made 76 appearances for the Whites, chipping in with 12 goals.
