Victor Orta offers Leeds United transfer update amid Todd Cantwell and Louie Sibley links

Leeds United’s director of football Victor Orta has been speaking about the club's transfer plans amid links with Todd Cantwell and Louie Sibley.

Norwich City playmaker Cantwell was the subject of a £15m bid from the Whites just before the end of the international transfer window, according to a report.

However, a fresh rumour that has emerged is the interest in Derby County youngster Sibley, with Marcelo Bielsa keen to add a new central midfielder to his squad.

It appeared that Bayern Munich’s Michael Cuisance was on his way to Elland Road, but the move for the Frenchman fell through at the last minute.

Beren Cross' Leeds United transfer deadline day reaction

Despite Leeds and Bayern agreeing on a £20m move for Cuisance, there were concerns following his medical in Yorkshire.

This could have forced some clubs to panic buy in the final few days of the international window - but not Bielsa’s side.

The standards set by Bielsa and Orta are high, something the club’s director of football has explained.

Orta said: “When we analysed the market, we detected that with the requirements we have for this position, if a player is not realistic over all the requirements, bringing in a player for the sake of bringing in a player is not clever.

“It can be worse. We prefer to bring in a good player.”

Orta also spoke about Cantwell, and how the club have been analysing him, and likewise, Sibley of Derby.

Both Championship players are available to buy, or loan, until the domestic-only deadline closes on Friday.

“We analyse all the players. We know them really well, their clubs were our rivals, we analysed (Cantwell) in the Premier League,” Orta added.

“But it’s like a lot of the players we’ve analysed, it’s difficult. They are players we analysed, we have information and then we need to think about the possibility.”
