Victor Orta issues defiant Leeds United rallying cry to critics after Manchester United defeat

Victor Orta says Leeds United always suspected a heavy defeat would come their way but that their 6-2 loss to Manchester United is no reason to change style.

The Whites' attacking style under Marcelo Bielsa has come in for plenty of debate since their humbling at Old Trafford, when the Red Devils were able to take advantage of gaps in Leeds' defence.

Bielsa has hit out at the criticism of Leeds' style, and director of football Orta has backed the manager.

Speaking to Spanish paper AS, Orta said that Bielsa's unique style brought Leeds promotion so there is no need to change things.

How will Bielsa improve defence without impacting attack?

Orta also argued that those criticising Leeds for some patchy recent results are ignoring the fact that their first season back in the Premier League should be solely focussed on survival and stabilisation in the top division of English football.

He said: "We knew that with our style and the quality of our rivals something like this could one day happen to us, but this same style has led us to where we are.

"With an identity recognized by our people and it is the one that will continue to take us far. The team believes in him.

"We are on our level. You have to keep your feet on the ground.

"In the Premier League, of every three teams that get promoted, the average is that 1.8 go down the following year.

"The objective after the first year of promotion is to stay to stabilize the project. The second year you can calmly be more ambitious."
