Ninety per cent of Leeds United’s incoming summer business is done, but director of football Victor Orta has not ruled out replacing Pontus Jansson in defence.
In a rare interview, Orta faced questions at Cottesloe Beach Hotel in Perth where fans were invited to hear from owner Andrea Radrizzani and managing director Angus Kinnear.
Speaking to LeedsLive, he admitted the only thing he was certain of in life was his own death, but the Whites would continue to keep abreast of defensive transfer targets.
While head coach Marcelo Bielsa and Orta are broadly happy with the unit at their disposal, the latter did allow himself a 10 per cent leeway from an ideal, complete roster.
Asked if he would pursue a centre-back following Jansson’s departure, Orta said: “We are always open in the market, but now we are [at] 90 per cent of the [squad we want].
“It’s always a decision of the club. We are in a situation that all of the decisions are totally co-ordinated between all the people within the club: board, director of football, head coach.
“It’s the best way to work.”
Pushed on the 90 per cent figure and how close that meant to be done for the summer, he said: “Ninety per cent is close, but obviously it’s football. In life the only thing I know is I am going to die.
“The rest - I am not sure of.”
