Victor Orta explains why Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa went back for Jack Harrison

Victor Orta has spoken about Leeds United’s decision to bring Jack Harrison back for a second loan spell.

The Manchester City loanee returned to training at Thorp Arch with a sensational goal , and United’s director of football has promised more to come from him next season.

The deal was announced on Monday alongside the capture of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Ben White , an encouraging development in United’s bid for promotion next season.

Harrison was favoured by Marcelo Bielsa last season, becoming a regular for the Whites.

He made 42 appearances, mostly from the left wing, scoring four goals and providing three assists, but improving in terms of his output as the season went on.

“For me, in football the second year for a player is really important,” said Orta. “If you analyse the first year, you can make a big impact, but from the MLS to the Championship, it’s a big step in terms of adaptation in football.”

The director of football was speaking to LUTV in an illuminating interview in which he also touched on the signing of White, the implications of Financial Fair Play and Bielsa’s second season at the club.

“Jack showed in the last part of last season the real Jack Harrison,” he said. “He’s a player that’s constantly growing, that understands our style, in my opinion his quality can be the difference in the Championship.

“He needed time, he got time, but now for me this is the year for knowing his real level and showing it because he has all the skills to be an important player.”
