Victor Oladipo donates 500 meals to Houston’s Sunnyside neighborhood

Houston Rockets guard Victor Oladipo donated 500 meals on Sunday to residents in Houston’s Sunnyside neighborhood, which is dealing with hardships related to last week’s winter storm. The meals were from Cadillac Bar, which is owned by Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta.

The Sunnyside community is located outside the 610 Loop and inside Beltway 8 on Houston’s south side, near State Highway 288. It is predominantly comprised of African American residents.

Staffers from the Rockets’ organization were on hand to distribute the meals as part of a drive-up distribution format. The event was held in partnership with Greater Grace Outreach Church, which also provided water, produce, and other essentials to families in the area.

A two-time All-Star, Oladipo was traded to Houston in January as part of the blockbuster trade sending James Harden to Brooklyn. Now 28 years old, he’s one of the top scorers and defenders on the current Rockets, with averages of 18.4 points and 4.9 assists in 30.9 minutes per game during his time in Houston. Oladipo is currently sidelined with a right foot strain, but he’s expected to return to the lineup relatively soon.
