Victor Lindelof speaks out on Manchester United future after Barcelona transfer speculation

Victor Lindelof has pledged his commitment to Manchester United after his agent claimed Barcelona were interested in signing him.

Lindelof's representative Hasan Cetinkaya last week hinted Barcelona were keen on the Swede when he told Catalan sports daily Mundo Deportivo: "There is a big club in Europe that wants him, but everything depends on Manchester."

Lindelof, 24, joined United in a £30.9million deal from Benfica two years ago and is contracted to the club until 2021 and United have the option of an additional year.

The Sweden international established himself as a first-teamer at United last season and stressed he is 'happy' at the club.

"I'm very very happy to be a Manchester United player and I'm really looking forward to this season," Lindelof said. "I'm very excited for a new season to start so yeah, that's my answer, I'm very happy here."

Lindelof is one of six centre halves available to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United have targeted a deal for the Leicester centre-back Harry Maguire.

Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones started in the pre-season friendly win over Perth Glory on Saturday and were replaced at half-time by Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo, since Lindelof and Eric Bailly were both injured.

United's failure to jettison Rojo last year partially prevented them from recruiting a central defender and Solskjaer suggested one may have to be sold if there is a reinforcement.

"Yeah of course, there's a limit of players," Solskjaer noted. "And whoever performs will be part of the team and whoever doesn't has a fight to get back in.

"And there's been loads of speculation but I can't really say anything but we'll work to find a relationship with the ones we've got."
