Victor Lindelof's Man Utd absence explained by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Victor Lindelof has missed Manchester United's clash with Watfod for "family issues".

The Swedish defender has been a regular under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since he replaced Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Lindelof rejected a call-up during the international break and he was left out of the United side for the encounter with Watford .

Solskjaer was asked about the defender's absence as he spoke to the media ahead of the clash.

"Family issues. He’s had a tough week but will be back soon," the United boss confirmed.

In the Swede's absence, Phil Jones partnered Chris Smalling in central defence for United.

Lindelof has arguably been in the best form of his United career since Solskjaer arrived at Old Trafford.

The United boss was boosted by the return to fitness of a host of his players after the international break.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both pulled out of international duty but were fit enough to take their spots in the starting line-up.

Nemanja Matic was also passed fit for the hosts while Romelu Lukaku made the bench after a foot problem, as did Jesse Lingard.

"We feel it’s a good team we’ve put out," added Solskjaer.

"There’s a couple are still nurturing injuries. Jesse, Romelu. They’re not ready to play 90 yet."

United are set to embark on a busy run of fixtures with Solskjaer's men travelling to Molineux to face Wolves in midweek.

They then have a week to prepare for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Barcelona at Old Trafford.
