Victor Lindelof praises Ole Gunnar Solskjaer change in Man United win vs Tottenham

Victor Lindelof supported Manchester United's decision to switch to a back-three following their comfortable 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Following last Sunday's 5-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to make a key tactical switch in a bid to improve his side defensively, deciding to line-up with a back-three.

The returning Raphael Varane joined Harry Maguire and Lindelof in the three-man defence and their efforts fully deserved a clean sheet - just United's second in their past 22 matches.

Although Spurs did very little to threaten United, who are now just three points behind cross-city rivals Manchester City ahead of next Saturday's derby at Old Trafford, Lindelof welcomed the decision to play a 3-5-2 in North London.

"It felt good," Lindelof told MUTV. "I think we defended well. They didn’t have a lot of chances, but I think as well as a team today we defended very well.

“Everyone from the strikers down to David, you know and I think that’s very important especially from the strikers if they help us out then it makes it easier for everyone."

Playing alongside Maguire and the fit-again Varane at the back, Lindelof felt his team-mates "covered each other's back."

"It was a good defensive game for us of course, but we helped each other a lot, we covered each other's backs and I think that’s the main part about today’s game," added the Swede.

"I always say that if we keep a clean sheet we’re always going to score goals and that’s exactly what we did today.

"It was very important for us too as a team to keep a clean sheet and I think that’s something we can build on."

Although it was the back-three that will take the credit for the clean sheet, it was Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani's link-up play at the top end of the pitch that was key.

"They’ve obviously shown that for many, many years and they are very, very important players for us," Lindelof said, hailing the United forwards.

"They showed immense quality today and they scored a goal as well so I mean yes, top quality, like always."
