Victor Lindelof identifies Manchester United mistake against Club Brugge

Victor Lindelof admitted Manchester United should not have allowed Club Brugge to score in the manner they did in their Europa League clash on Thursday.

United were slow from the start in Belgium, and fell behind when Emmanuel Dennis raced onto a long goal kick to lob over the on-rushing Sergio Romero.

Lindelof and centre-back partner Harry Maguire had ventured upfield for a United corner, and as they appealed for another corner, Mignolet took a quick goal kick instead - as awarded by the officials - setting up Dennis to brush off Brandon Williams and score.

Anthony Martial later capitalised on some hesitancy in the Brugge defence to level the scores and set the tie up nicely for the second leg.

Brugge's opener was undoubtedly a poor goal to concede, and Lindelof accepted that United should have done better.

He told MUTV: "We shouldn't concede a goal like that but it happens. We scored from a mistake that they made. It's football, it happens, but we shouldn't concede a goal like that.

"We scored an away goal and that's very important in a European game."

Looking ahead to the second leg, Lindelof said United were determined to do better, and are confident of progressing as the home side.

"We play at home and we know what type of football we can play," the Swede added.

"I think we showed at times today the quality of football we can play. Of course when we play at home we're going to try and do a better game and win the tie."
