Victor Lindelof explains how Manchester United players felt after Jesse Lingard ended goal drought

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof said he and his teammates were all 'happy' to see Jesse Lingard end his Premier League goal drought against Leicester.

United beat Leicester 2-0 courtesy of goals from Bruno Fernandes and Lingard at the King Power Stadium.

United were awarded a spot-kick midway through the second half of their vital Champions League decider at the King Power Stadium when Anthony Martial was fouled in the box.

Fernandes stood up to tuck away the vital goal, which set Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side on their way to a 2-0 win. Lingard then wrapped up the victory late on and Lindelof admitted the United players were ecstatic to see the stoppage time goal go in.

Speaking to MUTV he was asked about the penalty and said he had full confidence in Fernandes.

"I was quite confident when I saw that it was a penalty," said the Swede, who was impressive in the win. "He's a great penalty-taker and I think he knew right away where he wanted to put the ball. I wasn't nervous at all.

"It was a relief when he scored that second goal and for him to do that was a very good moment, so we were happy for that."

On the game as a whole, Lindelof admitted that United weren't at their best but relied on defensive resilience to see out a hard-fought win.

He added: "We didn't play our best game but we showed strength as a team to come here against a strong team like Leicester and win 2-0, so job done.

"It's always been our goal this season after the break to get that Champions League spot and we've achieved that.

"Every time we go out on the pitch we do everything together. We press as a team and attack and defend as a team. That's been the main key for the unbeaten run. Everyone knows what they're supposed to do on the pitch and if you know that I think everything is easier.

"Obviously we have some really good attackers as well, who have been performing and I think as a defensive unit as well, with David [de Gea], we've been having some really good games as well.

"We didn't perform to our highest level but still went out there and fought as a team and we were mentally strong. The result showed that at 2-0 and another clean sheet."
