Victims were not wearing seatbelts before horror crash with double-decker bus

Jurors were yesterday shown video clips of a double-decker bus crashing into a crossing car.

And a grim image of the inside of a Renault Megane Scenic after the horror crash was also screened.

It showed the back seats where passengers Dimitar Georgiev, 32, Zaharina Hristova, 37, and Silyan Stefanov, 42, were sitting before they died last March.

None were wearing seatbelts and two were flung from the car into the opposite carriageway.

On trial is Marin Rachev, 35, of Aberdeen, who denies dangerous driving and causing the deaths.

It’s alleged he pulled out on to the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee Road from its junction with Drumlithie without giving way and into the path of a bus.

PC Andrew Ramsey told the High Court in Aberdeen: “Had they been wearing seatbelts, it’s likely that all would have remained within the vehicle.

“It might have increased their chances of survival although they would still have been seriously injured.”

The trial continues.
