- The victims have been identified as Agustin Escobar, CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility; his wife, Mercè Camprubí Montal, global commercialisation manager at Siemens Energy; their three children (aged 4, 5, and 11); and the pilot.
- The helicopter, a Bell 206, broke apart mid-air after takeoff from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport.
- Witnesses reported seeing the tail and main rotor separate from the helicopter before it plunged into the water.
- The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
