Victims of housing project frauds stage protest

Special Correspondent

KOCHI.

Around 30 persons, who were reportedly victims of fraud/cheating after having invested in apartment or villa projects, offered prayers while bearing lit candles, in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue near Rajendra Maidan, on Saturday.

The function was organised by a collective under Janapaksham, a city-based NGO, to provide succour to the victims, who lost money and peace of mind after having invested in such projects. It was decided to hold similar prayer protests in front of the office/house of promoters of these projects.

The participants included a couple from Konni, who are aged over 80. The complaints of these people were being sorted out, following which a core committee would study the cases and provide necessary legal aid, said Benny Joseph, an organiser.
