Victim stabbed on Nottingham river towpath after arranging to meet buyer for online sale

Detectives are investigating after a man was stabbed during a robbery on a Nottingham river towpath.

The victim had advertised goods for sale online and had arranged to meet a buyer on the path running along the River Leen, just off New Road and running parallel with St Peter’s Street, in Radford.

They were discussing prices when the man stabbed him in the back of his shoulder before running off with the goods towards Subway.

The robbery happened between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday, April 28.

The 20-year-old victim initially thought that he had been punched before realising that he had been stabbed in the shoulder.

Police say he was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre where he had stitches for his wound before being discharged.

A description of a suspect has been released by the force.

Detective Sergeant Andy Buxton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The towpath where this happened is quite heavily used so we’re urging anyone who was in that area around the time and who saw anything to please get in touch with us.

“It’s fortunate the victim’s injuries were not more serious but it was still a very distressing experience for him.

“We take all reports of robbery and knife crime extremely seriously and our inquiries are moving at pace to trace the suspect.

"The suspect has been described by the victim as being of middle-eastern orientation, 24-25-years-old, 6ft 2ins tall and of muscular build.

"He has dark hair and a sharp defined beard and was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit.

“Anyone with any information about this incident should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 526 of 28 April 2021, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“Given the circumstances of this robbery we would also urge people to take steps to protect themselves if they are selling goods online.”
