A man was slashed across the face in a random street attack in Paisley.

The 52-year-old was targeted by a knifeman on Dalskeith Road, Ferguslie around 9.15pm on Tuesday.

The victim was rushed to the town's Royal Alexandra Hospital where he received stitches to a facial injury and could be left scarred for life.

Police have said the motive for the attack is currently unknown and there is no description of the attacker.

Detectives are carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area, as well as checking CCTV.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross, from Paisley CID, who is leading the investigation has urged anyone who may have saw the violent incident to come forward to police.

He said: “Police are investigating after a 52-year-old man was seriously assaulted in Dalskeith Road, Paisley, at around 9.15pm on Tuesday night.

“The victim sustained a laceration to his face and was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment.”

He added: “This was a despicable attack on an innocent member of the public and we are determined to identify the individual responsible.

“If you witnessed the incident or have any information in relation to it, please get in touch with police.

“I would also urge drivers who may have been in the area at the time of the attack to check dashcam footage to see if they captured anything that might be useful to our investigation.

“Similarly, if you have private CCTV in the area, please get in touch, call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
