A 75-year-old man has died a week after allegedly being pushed to the ground while waiting for a taxi in Toowoomba.

Several arrests were made following the alleged assault and robbery last Monday, and police now expect charges of grievous bodily harm to be upgraded following a post-mortem.

An 18-year-old man, 17-year-old boy and two 16-year-old boys have been charged over the incident.

Police say the alleged victim, who has an impairment, was waiting at a taxi rank about 5pm when he was struck from behind, causing him to fall before having his backpack stolen.

The man sustained serious head injuries and was transported to hospital, where he died on Monday.
