The victim killed in a horror M8 road crash has been identified as a 43-year-old man.

The family of the man, who is from the west of Scotland, have been informed of his death after he died at the scene of the crash around 8.45pm on Thursday November 19.

He has been walking along a live lane of the M8 westbound between junctions 7A and 8 for Baillieston when he was struck by multiple vehicles.

Images showed huge traffic tailbacks on the motorway indicating the scale of the accident.

The road was shut until 2pm on Friday, November 20 and re-opened following an investigation. Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident by Road Policing Officers.

Sergeant Scott Sutherland from Motherwell Road Policing Unit, said: “We have now identified the man involved in this crash and informed his family. Our thoughts continue to be with them at this time, along with those involved in this crash.

"I would like to thank those witnesses who have assisted with our enquiries so far and ask anyone who has yet to speak to officers and pass on relevant information to do this as soon as possible.

"I am particularly looking to speak with the driver of a red articulated HGV who we understand was travelling westbound on the M8 at the time of the collision and could have information to help the investigation.

"Anyone with information should report this to Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3302 of 19 November.”
