Victim had two front teeth knocked out in one-punch attack

A man is to receive £750 compensation after his two front teeth were knocked out by a single punch.

The assault left him on a liquid diet and having to use a straw, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

The injury was caused by Kieran McIvor, 24, who admitted assault causing actual bodily harm in March 2018.

He was given a 21-week prison sentence, suspended for a year, and must obey a three-month curfew at home in Balmoral Avenue, Bingham.

This will run from 8.30pm except on the night he attends a probation course. He must wear an electronic tag.

Judge John Burgess told him: "To swing out at somebody in the way you did is completely unacceptable.

"He has suffered a very nasty injury. We don't know yet whether his teeth will live. He was left drinking and eating through a straw."

Leanne Summers, prosecuting, said the victim was on a liquid diet for four weeks. He needed a fortnight on painkillers and was cut inside the mouth.

The two front teeth were refixed with the help of a metal plate but it has affected how he speaks and "as a result it has knocked his confidence," added Miss Summers.

Felicity Campbell, mitigating, said McIvor would be able to pay the compensation at a rate of £100 monthly.

Although the offence was committed last year, he accepted that he was "in a precarious position" and risked custody.

He is currently receiving help from probation officers and has a full-time job.
