Victim attacked with machete after striking burglar with hammer in Weston-super-Mare

A man was attacked with a machete after defending himself with a hammer during a robbery in Weston-super-Mare.

The victim, aged 26, was at his home in Walliscote Road when two unknown men called at his front door at around 7.30pm on Monday evening (October 21).

Both offenders tried to force their way in and were armed with weapons – one carrying a machete and the other a claw hammer.

The victim used another hammer in his defence and struck one of the offenders in the head before fleeing the property to a neighbour’s house, where he raised the alarm.

As he left the house, he was struck once in the back with the machete, causing minor injuries.

The offenders stole items from the property before leaving the scene in a white BMW.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary is now appealing for anyone who saw the two suspects to get in touch.

A police spokesperson said: "The first is described as white, around 40 years old, gaunt in the face, with grey wispy hair and almost bald, of average build and around 5ft 9ins or 5ft 10ins.

What happens after a crime is reported?

"He was wearing either a navy blue or black zip up jacket with navy blue jeans. He was clean shaven and spoke with a local accent.

"The second suspect was also white, aged between 20 and 26 years old, about 6ft, of very thin build.

"He was wearing a black beanie hat with a black scarf across his face, a black hooded top and navy blue tracksuit bottoms. He was carrying a rucksack.

"If you saw men matching these descriptions in the area of the incident, or saw the white BMW leaving the scene, or have any information which could help our inquiry, please call us on 101.

"Give the call handler the reference number 5219244083."
