Vicky Phelan has revealed that she will receive her Covid-19 vaccine next week as she continues her cancer treatment in America.
The CervicalCheck campaigner is currently waiting for her sixth round of the clinical trial in Maryland.
Mum-of-two Vicky admits she feels a sense of relief that she will be protected from the highly-transmissible virus.
She said: “I am getting the first dose of the Covid vaccine next Wednesday. I am so so relieved to be getting vaccinated now.
“It will allow me more freedom to move around and be a tourist here on the days that I am well.”
Vicky said she is recovering well after her last round of treatment and she will be returning to the hospital once again on Tuesday.
She has swapped her Maryland apartment for one in Virginia, meaning that she is closer to her pal Geraldine, who is helping with her recovery.
Posting on social media, the Limerick woman said: “I recovered well following Round 5 of treatment which bodes well heading into Round #6 next Tuesday.
“Once I came round from the tiredness and grogginess, I started packing up and cleaning my AirBnB apartment in Bethesda to move over the border from Maryland into Virginia.
“I am now living about a half hour away from the hospital in Oldtown, Alexandria.”
However, there are some downsides following the move this week but she is able to get over them and move forward with her plans.
Vicky said: “The cons are just that I am further away from the hospital should anything go wrong but I feel that I have settled into treatment now and, anyway, I am only five minutes from Geraldine, which gives me, and my family great peace of mind!”
