Vicky Phelan shares happy update while quarantining in Clare as she focuses on family time with kids

Vicky Phelan said she is looking forward to moving freely around Ireland once she completes her quarantine period after flying home from the US.

The CervicalCheck campaigner arrived on Irish soil last week after spending six months in the States for medical treatment.

She had been undergoing an experimental trial in Maryland since January after she developed a new tumour for the first time in over two years.

Vicky shared the highs and lows of her treatment journey and the horrific side effects of the main drug on her clinical trial, M784.

But last Thursday, the mother-of-two was finally reunited with her family after arriving back home in Ireland.

In an update last night, Vicky said she was enjoying quality family time after half a year of being separated from her kids Amelia and Darragh.

The Limerick native is quarantining in Doonbeg, Co Clare, and is hoping for good news today which would mean her isolation period can come to an end.

After taking a PCR test following five days of quarantine today, Vicky, who is fully vaccinated, said "fingers crossed all will be well and I will be able to move around more freely".

She said she is enjoying her time in Clare and is focusing on spending time with her kids after a long time apart.

"I am getting down to my favourite beach, Doughmore, for a daily walk when it is quiet (which I am entitled to do before the Covid police start in on me!)," she said on Instagram.

"The weather has been great here. Today was absolutely gorgeous.

"My husband, Jim, discovered this painted rock with a lovely, personalised welcome message for me at the Surfers Entrance two days ago.

"I have no idea who painted it for me but if anyone knows, please DM me. I would love to thank the artist. Jim brought it home to me. THANK YOU, whoever you are, for such a thoughtful gift."

Vicky then thanked the local Trump Doonbeg hotel for sending over a complimentary hamper full of goodies for the family.

She wrote: "This evening, I came home from my walk to find this amazing picnic hamper with a full family size fish pie, homemade brown bread, nuts cookies and chocolate truffles from my friends at @trumpdoonbeg.

"THANK YOU to the staff at Trump Doonbeg for such a thoughtful, delicious gift which we thoroughly devoured. The kids absolutely loved the cookies. We look forward to being able to get back up to you for lunch in the near future."

She then thanked everyone for their support since she arrived back in Ireland, and added that she would provide more updates once her quarantine period is over.

The campaigner added: "Thank you to everyone for the lovely messages. I can't keep up with them all at the moment because I am focusing on spending time with my kids but I will get there.

"More to come once I am Covid free."
