Vicky Phelan 'incredibly grateful to be so well' ahead of next bout of cancer treatment in America

The cervical cancer campaigner took a day trip to Washington DC and shared snaps of her visit with Instagram followers yesterday.

The Kilkenny native who now lives in Limerick, flew to the US state of Maryland in January to take part in a new experimental clinical treatment.

While mum-of-two said she is “heading into treatment” again today to receive her second round of cancer therapy, she spent her day yesterday sightseeing and enjoying the sunny weather in the US Capitol.

Vicky rented an electric bike and cycled 8 kilometres into DC along the popular Mount Vernon to Washington trail.

She shared photographs of popular tourist spots along the National Mall including the Lincoln Memorial, the White House and the Capitol Building.

“Because today was Memorial Day,” Vicky said she “stayed for a bit to watch” the wreath laying ceremonies taking place and a ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The campaigner was finally able to get a good look at the White House for the first time, “when I arrived here first… you could barely see the White House with the huge fencing that had been erected following the insurrection on January 6.”

Vicky described her day out as “fabulous” and said she is feeling “good heading into treatment tomorrow.”

“On days like this I feel so incredibly grateful to be so well,” she signed off.
