Vicky McClure says filming Line of Duty in lockdown presented 'a lot of challenges'

Vicky McClure has said that filming Line of Duty in the midst of lockdowns in Northern Ireland presented the cast and crew with a number of challenges.

It comes as Line of Duty is set to return to our screens on Sunday, March 21.

Filming for Line of Duty began in early 2020, but was cut short due to the pandemic.

It was paused for six months before resuming in late 2020 - under strict Covid-safety conditions - and filming was wrapped up in December.

Actress Vicky McClure, who plays Kate Fleming on Line of Duty, said that their new working conditions were difficult, but that she's proud of what she and the crew achieved with season six.

She said: "[Filming during Covid] came with lots of challenges, the filming schedule was difficult to get our heads around.

The masks, testing and hygiene very quickly became a thing of the norm. It was hard not being able to go home at weekends but it helped that we were with really good friends. I feel really proud of what we achieved in such a difficult time."

Asked about what her character would have been like under Covid rules and lockdown, McClure said:

"Kate Fleming would have just carried on working. She’s a workaholic and would have carried on fighting crime. I think she would have been quite lonely - Josh would have been at his dad’s a lot more."

  • Line of Duty Season Six begins on BBC One on March 21.
