Vicky McClure and Martin Luther King's son to speak at Nottingham event

The eldest son of civil rights campaigner Martin Luther King Jr will be among a raft of high-profile speakers coming to Nottingham next week.

Game of Thrones actress Bella Ramsey and Line of Duty star Vicky McClure will also take to the stage at WE Day - a youth empowerment event and social action celebration - as it comes to the city for the first time.

Students aren't able to buy tickets for the event at The Royal Concert Hall, on November 5, rather they have to earn their place by taking action on one local and a global cause.

Ahead of the event, Vicky said: "Young people today face a very challenging world.

"Whether it’s struggling with self-confidence, or one of many other daily struggles, the thousands of committed students joining us at WE Day Community: Nottingham have proved that they’re willing to face whatever obstacles come their way, and it’s an honour to join them as they celebrate shaping a better, kinder future for all.”

Other figures who have been confirmed as appearing at the event are American actor Emilio Estevez and Margaret Trudeau, the former wife of Canadian Prime Minister Pierre and mother of current PM Justin.

She is an author, actor and is a social advocate for people with bipolar disorder.

WE Charity co-founder, Craig Kielburger, said: "The young people earn their ticket to attend WE Day and are at the forefront of change.

"They are committed to tackling some of the largest issues the world has ever faced; including homelessness, climate change, and wellbeing, to name a few.

"WE Day demonstrates how important it is to empower our youth to be leaders of change by providing them with the tools and resources they need to chase their dreams, both in the classroom and out in their communities."

The event is being held in Nottingham thanks to co-title supporter Boots UK.

The company, headquartered in Beeston, wants to empower a generation of young people in Nottingham to 'fulfill their potential by developing their personal wellbeing and workplace readiness through social action'.

This will be the first time the event has been held outside of London in the UK and also coincides with Boots UK's 170th birthday.
