Vicky McClure and fiancé Jonny Owen say they're 'too busy to get married next year'

Vicky McClure has put her wedding to filmmaker Jonny Owen on ice — saying the couple are too busy to set a date.

The Line Of Duty star, 36, got engaged to writer, producer and actor Owen on Christmas Day in 2017 and they had planned to tie the knot in 2020. “But now, next year is not looking likely,” she told Insider. “I don’t want to rush something like that.

“We were looking at the diary and already our jobs are busy. The thing with getting married [is], yes, it is a lovely celebration with friends and family but I am not going to love him any more or less by getting married. So it’s going to be postponed. The date has moved.”

The couple met on the set of 2013 music drama Svengali and moved in together in Nottingham within weeks. McClure said she “just knew” Owen, 48, was the one after they discussed her role in the movie — which he wrote and also starred in — over the phone.

The Bafta winner, now best known for playing Detective Inspector Kate Fleming in Jed Mercurio’s blockbuster police drama, is about to star in a television adaptation of Anthony Horowitz’s novels about teenage spy Alex Rider. Owen, meanwhile, is preparing to release a football film called Three Kings in the coming weeks and has a “day job” looking after the media for Nottingham Forest football club.

He said: “I call her Mrs Off And Back. She works really hard. And her profile has never been higher and she is doing brilliantly. I am really proud of her.”

The couple spoke ahead of a partnership with Marriott Bonvoy, the travel loyalty programme from Marriott International. They feature in photographs about “Loyalty & Love” commissioned by the brand and taken by Rankin.
