BBC Radio 1’s Vick Hope has announced a break from the airwaves – using a photo of herself breast pumping in the studio.
Hope gave birth to her son Micah in July 2025, her first with husband Calvin Harris, the popular DJ and music producer.
She announced her return to presenting Radio 1’s drivetime show Going Home with Vick, Katie and Jamie – alongside fellow presenters Katie Thistleton and Jamie Laing – in February, as part of a phased return from maternity, and has now revealed she’ll be taking a step back for the rest of the summer.
Posting to her Instagram, Hope wrote: “Have really enjoyed returning to the airwaves for a lovely (albeit crazy busy) few months of phased return from maternity/KIT days on Radio 1.”
Hope added that it’s “unbelievable” that baby Micah is nearly one year old, and that “while he’s still so small and summer touring season is upon us, this is my last show for a while as I take my final installment of leave over the coming months.”
In the image accompanying the message, Hope could be seen wearing an electronic breast pumping device.
Hope has previously been praised for talking about breast pumping, which is the process of extracting milk using a manual or electronic device. This can then be used to provide a regular supply of milk for a newborn baby, helping mothers in their return to work.
In May, Hope posted a carousel of images to her Instagram depicting her at Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival in Sunderland, where she partied, interviewed stars and then pumped. She captioned the carousel: “Eat Sleep Rave PumpBoobs Repeat.”
“Thank you for normalising breast feeding and pumping,” wrote one commenter. “My two girls were breastfed for 18 months each, even though I worked full time. Pumping was the norm and I loved those times.”
“I was pumping in the field there yesterday,” wrote another commenter, alongside a strong arm emoji.
Hope has presented BBC Radio 1’s drivetime show since 2020, having previously worked as a presenter on Capital FM’s Capital Breakfast.
She married Calvin Harris in 2023, the pair having been spotted sporting engagement rings one year earlier. Asked in 2022 about their forthcoming wedding, Hope told Hello! Magazine that she was determined to keep their relationship private.
“I was very overwhelmed by the interest in it, but I’m keeping my private life private,” she said. “I’ve never really experienced this before about my private life, but it’s just for us.”
