Vicious thug left pensioner, 70, with horrific injuries following cowardly attack

A vicious thug did this to a 70-year-old pensioner out walking.

The man was approached from behind then attacked in Denton, Tameside.

Distressing images of his injuries released by police show the extent of his bruised and battered face.

Now police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak with in connection with the brutal assault in early April.

The pensioner suffered a fractured eye socket, bruising to his head and a nasty cut above his right eyebrow.

He hasn't been named but was taken to hospital for treatment and is now understood to be recovering with family at home.

No further details have been released by police.

It's not known whether it was a robbery or more than one attacker was involved.

The man in the CCTV is pictured walking near roller-shutter doors along a parade of closed shops wearing blue jeans, black jacket and black trainers.

It is understood to have been taken from a camera near the junction of Market Street and Victoria Street in Denton town centre.

The attack took place at 7.20pm on April 2.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "The victim, who is in his 70s, was approached from behind and attacked near the junction of Market Street and Victoria Street.

"He suffered a fractured eye socket, bruising to the head and a cut to the eyebrow which required hospital treatment.

"An image has been released of a man police would like to speak to."
