'Vicious' builder who tried to lure a schoolgirl into his van wanted by police

A builder with a violent past who tried to lure a schoolgirl into his van is wanted by police.

Merseyside Police have launched a manhunt for Robert Case after he breached his licence following his release from prison.

The 39-year-old had been put behind bars in April 2017 having tried to entice a teenage girl into his van, the Liverpool Echo reported.

Case, who was high on cocaine at the time, fled the scene when the girl refused his advances and a member of the public raised the alarm.

In attempting to get away he tried to run down a police officer, rammed a patrol car and then crashed into a shop front.

He even continued to drive at speed after a stop-stick device shredded his front two tyres.

Case was eventually stopped in Southport town centre and arrested.

The builder, of no fixed address but originally from the Huyton area, admitted the attempted abduction of a child and dangerous driving, but denied he approached the girl with a “sexual motive.”

Judge Elizabeth Nicholls ruled his motives were “both sexual and sinister” and jailed him for 37 months.

Back in 2002 at the age of 22, Case waited for his former girlfriend to return to their Bootle home.

He then knifed her in the heart, back and arm.

The young teacher suffered a stroke as a result of the brutal attack and spent three months in hospital recovering.

She was left registered disabled.

In 2003 Julie Forsyth, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court that Case and the woman had had a turbulent relationship for about five years.

He was initially charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Jailing Case for eight years, Judge David Lynch said: “This was not a sudden loss of will, it was a culmination of intimidation and violence towards the victim.

“It was carefully planned and vicious."

Three years later Case, while out on remand, received another four years behind bars for threatening to kill the same woman.

During that trial Judge Henry Globe, QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, said: “The calls were menacing in the extreme.

"There were many references to killing her and members of her family at some time in the future.”

Today Merseyside Police urged people to come forward if they have information of Case's whereabouts.

They described him as white, 6ft tall, of heavy build, with brown hair and blue eyes.

A police spokesman said: "If you have seen Case or have any information as to his whereabouts, please contact us via @MerPolCC on Twitter, ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook, or call the independent charity @CrimestoppersUK anonymously on 0800 555 111, with reference 20000685178."
