A vicious armed gang of young boys terrorising and targeting commuters at a Dublin DART station were arrested last night after undercover Gardai caught them in the middle of one of their attacks.
Several complaints to Gardai led to officers carrying out an undercover operation in Raheny in a bid to tackle the increased assaults in the area as the young group of five inflicted fear using weapons just so they can steal a couple of bikes.
One victim told Dublin Live that they had been threatened with a screwdriver while another said they had been held at knife point as the gang cycled away with their bikes.
An eye-witness to last night's operation, whose son had his bike robbed recently, applauded the quick action of the Gardai.
They said: "Some serious action at the DART station with undercover and uniform guards catching the gang of bike thieves. Good to see some action being taken."
Despite being arrested, the five youths were released without charge and files are being prepared for Juvenile Liaison Officers according to a Garda spokesman.
