Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara fought back tears as he declared “football is in mourning” in the wake of the death of Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

The businessman tragically died when his helicopter, which he took to and from games, crashed outside the King Power Stadium on Saturday night.

Four other people were also killed in the crash which happened moments after the helicopter had taken off from the centre circle following Leicester’s 1-1 draw with West Ham .

Tributes have been pouring in for Srivaddhanaprabha, an owner who Leicester City and football fans alike held dear, with Soccer Saturday and Soccer AM star Kamara welling up as he spoke on Good Morning Britain.

“It’s so sad and the whole of football is in mourning,” he said. “That is the one thing about it.

“This fella was a very likeable man. The players loved him. He was different to other chairmen. There are quite a few chairmen like him around the country but in the Premier League they’re few and far between.

“He was one of those. He engaged with the players. Loads go in for personal gain.

"He went in because he believed in Leicester City and what they could achieve and what he could achieve with them.”

Srivaddhanaprabha bought then-Championship side Leicester City for £39million in 2010. He became chairman in 2011 and the club were promoted to the top flight in 2014.

And it was in 2016 that his beloved club were crowned Premier League champions against all odds in one of football’s greatest fairytales.

Kamara also spoke about former England manager Glenn Hoddle who remains in a serious condition after he collapsed at the BT Sport studios on Saturday.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
