The Navy’s most senior submariner, Vice Admiral Srikant, died in the early hours of Tuesday due to COVID-19 related complications at the Base hospital in the national capital.
The ‘grey dolphin’, as he is referred to, was the Director General of Project Seabird in Karwar, Karnataka. He was due to retire on December 31.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his condolences in a message on Twitter. “Deeply pained at the untimely and sudden demise of DG Seabird, Vice Admiral Srikant. The MoD and the Indian Navy will always remember his stellar contributions and remarkable service to the nation. My deepest condolences to his bereaved family and friends. Om Shanti!,” he said.
Vice Adm Srikant had held appointments such as the Commandant of the National Defence College and the Inspector General of Nuclear Safety. He had also served as Defence Advisor in the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
