Vic teen's murder accused applies for bail

A man charged with the murder of Victorian teenager Solomone Taufeulungaki has applied for bail.

Solomone, 15, was fatally stabbed at Brimbank Shopping Centre in Melbourne's west in June 2020.

Nine boys aged between 13 and 17 are charged with murder, as well as two men, Taataa Tafa, 20, and Soreysa Jibrael, 23, over the stabbing.

The incident allegedly involved a gang dispute and led to the most murder charges laid over a single death in Victoria.

Tafa's bail application was heard on Wednesday before Justice Paul Coghlan at the Victorian Supreme Court.

The sister of Tafa's partner told the court she and her partner were prepared to house the accused at their Dandenong residence, along with their two children, for the duration of his trial.

The woman said she would be prepared to call police should Tafa breach his bail conditions and was aware this could mean he returns to custody.

Tafa in November pleaded not guilty in Melbourne Magistrates Court to four charges including violent disorder, affray and murder.

Earlier that month, eight of the teenagers accused of murdering Solomone were granted bail.

Justice Coghlan said the teenagers had more "intense" bail support than Tafa.

He noted in a previous hearing that a Supreme Court trial may not happen before 2022.

Tafa's bail application will next be heard at the Victorian Supreme Court on Friday.
