A Melbourne man accused of contaminating food in a supermarket was allegedly seen licking a needle before poking it into a packet of bread.
A security guard also allegedly saw 33-year-old Fue Yang with a bloody needle and blood-stained tissue trying to enter the Woolworths supermarket in Roxburgh Park on Tuesday night.
Yang was charged on Wednesday with contaminating goods and committing an offence while on bail.
He faced Broadmeadows Magistrates Court later in the afternoon.
Police allege a security guard stopped Yang from entering the supermarket because he was holding several needles and a tissue, all with blood on them.
He loitered outside a nearby bank before trying again.
The guard allegedly told Yang to leave the needles outside, but he refused.
It's alleged Yang later entered the store while the guard was on a break.
Yang is then accused of opening a packet of bread, licking a needle and pushing it into the bread.
When confronted by a witness he apologised and began running away, documents claim.
Yang is in custody and police have applied to have his bail revoked.
But his lawyer Matthew White said that was not appropriate.
The case will return to court in November.
