Vic goes 56 day without virus transmission

For the 56th day in a row, Victoria has recorded zero community transmission of COVID-19. (AAP)

Victoria has gone eight straight weeks without community transmission of COVID-19.

Friday marks the 56th day in a row that the daily figure has been zero.

There were also no new cases of the virus in returned travellers in hotel quarantine in the 24 hours to Thursday night.

There are only 10 active cases in Victoria.

Nine are in hotel quarantine and the other is a teenage girl who contracted the virus in NSW.

More than 11,000 people were tested for the virus on Thursday.

Victoria Health says the number of tests was higher than expected and commended the community response to the government's call for people to continue to get tested if they have any symptoms of the infection.

Victoria Health is still urging residents to remain vigilant over the Christmas holiday in light of an outbreak in Sydney northern beaches area in NSW.

The border with NSW remains closed.
