A state memorial service to honour four police officers killed in Victoria's Eastern Freeway tragedy has been postponed, as the locked-down state battles its latest COVID-19 outbreak.
Leading Senior Constable Lynnette Taylor, 60, Senior Constable Kevin King, 50, and constables Glen Humphris, 32, and Josh Prestney, 28, were killed while on duty on the Eastern Freeway at Kew on April 22, 2020.
The crash was the single greatest loss of life in Victoria Police's history, with the truck driver responsible jailed in April for 22 years.
With their funerals restricted last year due to Victoria's first coronavirus lockdown, a state memorial service was announced for September 29 to coincide with National Police Remembrance Day.
But it has now been put on hold indefinitely, with the state government making the regrettable decision on public health advice and in consultation with the families and Victoria Police.
"The Department of Premier and Cabinet is currently in discussion with the families and considering future dates to hold the state memorial service," a government spokeswoman said on Monday.
"The new date will be announced as soon as it is available."
