Vic Fangio wants Broncos CB De’Vante Bausby to improve his tackling

Broncos cornerback Bryce Callahan has been dealing with a lingering foot injury this year so Isaac Yiadom began the season as a starter across from Chris Harris. Yiadom struggled in coverage and was benched in favor of De’Vante Bausby, the team’s new starter across from Harris.

Bausby has done well in coverage so far but his tackling wasn’t good enough against the Jaguars last week. Denver coach Vic Fangio wants the cornerback to improve that area of his game.

“He had some good plays the other night and then some that weren’t so good,” Fangio said Thursday. “His tackling’s got to improve. You can’t play good run defense without a secondary that will tackle and that includes corners. That’s what a lot of offenses try and do is try and make the corners tackle. We’ve got to be good tacklers out there.”

Broncos defensive coordinator Ed Donatell said Thursday that the team has placed an emphasis on tackling this week.

“Any time you have something that there was a lapse or weakness, you have to rectify it,” he said. “You have to work on it. You have to address it.”

Sunday’s game will air on CBS at 2:05 p.m. MT (view the TV map here).
