Vic Fangio says Broncos won’t add another quarterback ‘right now’

Broncos rookie quarterback Drew Lock is expected to miss the rest of preseason with a thumb injury but coach Vic Fangio said before practice Wednesday that the team won’t be adding another QB “right now.”

That answer leaves the door open for the possibility of Denver adding another QB after teams trim their rosters. For now, though, the Broncos are rolling with Joe Flacco, Kevin Hogan and Brett Rypien.

With a badly sprained thumb, Lock could be looking at up to six weeks recovery time, which may mean Hogan has won the backup job by default.

“It’s going to be a little bit of time,” Fangio said of Lock’s recovery period. “He sprained his thumb and, obviously, with a quarterback, your right thumb is pretty critical. So it’ll be some time.”

Flacco and Hogan will likely play most of Saturday’s game against the Rams and Hogan and Rypien will likely play in the preseason finale against the Cardinals on Aug. 29.

Denver will probably make a decision about possibily adding another QB after 53-man rosters are submitted on Aug. 31.
