Broncos coach Vic Fangio will face the Bears on Sunday. Fangio served as Chicago’s defensive coordinator from 2015-2018 but he downplayed the storyline of facing his former team before practice Wednesday.
“It really is just another game, especially coming off of our last game,” Fangio said, referencing a 24-16 loss to the Raiders in Week 1. “We just need to go out there and play a little bit better no matter who we’re playing.
“It’ll be a little different once I see all those guys in pregame and what not. But after they kick it off, it’ll be another NFL football game.”
Fangio was asked if he has an advantage knowing the tendencies and schemes of the Bears’ offense. He didn’t seem to indicate his knowledge of the team will have a big impact on Sunday’s game.
“It’s not a whole lot [of an advantage], really,” Fangio said. “I was only there with them one year in their current offensive system. I don’t think it’s a tremendous advantage other than knowing the players.”
Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco said Fangio’s knowledge of Chicago can be useful but shouldn’t be overblown.
“I’m sure he’s talked to our coordinator and our offensive staff about it and I’ll pick his brain for sure,” Flacco said. “At the end of the day, it’s still about attacking the scheme and making sure that we set our gameplan up in order to take care of some of those things. I think there is a little bit that you can take from it, but I don’t know if you’d look too much into it.”
Sunday’s game is scheduled to begin at 2:25 p.m. MT and will air on Fox.
