Vibrant pictures show Liverpool landmarks in a different light

These vibrant pictures of Liverpool landmarks as you've never seen them before will feature in a new book celebrating the city and its artists.

The Liverpool Art Book is the fourth in a series that has previously covered Cambridge, Oxford and Edinburgh, and will be launched at Waterstones Liverpool ONE next month.

But this edition stands out because it includes an introduction from Sir Paul McCartney , who said: "This idea of different artists interpretations puts a special angle to this great city that I love."

The images range from a patchwork Liver Building by Steph Dekker to a geometric rendition of the escalators in Liverpool ONE by John Petch, the artist behind the cover of OMD's 2018 album The Punishment of Luxury.

The many pictures in the book also include a foggy cityscape by Paul Anderson and Ben Staves' depiction of Liverpool city centre as a globe, suggesting it is the centre of its own universe.

Emma Bennett, The Liverpool Art Book's creator and editor, said: "Liverpool is a proud city with a great deal to be proud of.

"It is not surprising that Liverpool provides such inspiration to artists working in a range of media and styles.

From the St Johns Beacon, Cathedrals and Cavern Club , out to Crosby and Sefton Park , the artists’ images within The Liverpool Art Book encourage you to walk around the city and stand a while in the footsteps of an artist."

Liverpool 2 by Andy Mercer (Andy Mercer)

The art works were chosen by a panel comprising Ann Bukantis, head of fine art at National Museums Liverpool; Alicia Smith, arts and participation manager at Culture Liverpool; David Lockwood of Hugh Baird College; visual artist Jo Tunmer; Lucy Byrne, Dot-Art managing director; and the book's editor Emma Bennett.

The Liverpool Art Book is part of The City Art Book series. Tickets to the launch are available here .
