'Viable device' found during County Armagh security alert

A security alert in County Armaghhas ended with police taking away a "viable device" after the earlier discovery of a "suspicious object". Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officers and ammunition technical officers attended the scene last night, imposing a cordon at the junction of Ballintate Road and Ballymoyer Road in Whitecross

People were told to avoid the area at around 8.15pm on Monday evening, but at 12.09am today officers from Newry, Mourne and Down tweeted: "The road has now been reopened. Police are appealing to anyone with information, or who witnessed anything suspicious, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1701 of 23/05/22."

They added: "Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org."
