Veterans urge community to march for Erskine as part of month-long fundraiser

Veterans Joanna Martin and Danny Mavor are leading the way as they urge the Renfrewshire community to join them at the grand finale of March for Erskine, a month-long fundraising drive by Scotland’s largest Veterans’ charity.

March for Erskine: Live, will see Veterans, families, and members of the public descend on the Erskine Veterans Village in Bishopton on Saturday, March 26, for a 3K march through the heart of the grounds.

The event is a culmination of a month of virtual fundraising, with supporters digging out their boots to march for charity.

All ages can join the Veterans, to celebrate the March for Erskine, with the family-fun day including a Treasure Hunt for children, food stalls and entertainment.

All money raised will go towards transforming the lives of the nearly 1,000 ex-servicemen, women and their families in Erskine’s care every year.

Joanna, 59, a former RAF Auxiliary and Erskine Veteran said: “The live 3K March is a chance for those who didn’t manage to take part in the Virtual event to join in with the fun, as well as raising funds for such a fantastic charity that took great care of me when I needed it most.”

Erskine and Army Veteran Danny, 36, said: “The route, through the beautiful Erskine Veterans Village, is a great one suitable for bikes, chairs and prams and there are plenty of seats along the way for those who want to take their time. The day is going to be brilliant with all the proceeds coming to Erskine. I can’t speak highly enough of Erskine and the care it provides.”

Erskine events manager Zee Fletcher added: “We are absolutely delighted with the response to our March for Erskine Virtual event and we are sure that the Live event is going to be just as good. We have a fantastic day organised, one which will have something for everyone. We look forward to welcoming everyone on Saturday, March 26.”

Veterans living in Scotland can receive support across the charity’s network of four care homes and Veterans Village – made up of 44 cottages, The Erskine Reid Macewen Activity Centre, five assisted living apartments, and 24 Transitional Supported Accommodation Apartments.

Erskine chief executive, Ian Cumming MBE said: “By taking part in our March for Erskine events, our supporters will be helping to provide the high standard of care our Veterans so richly deserve. March for Erskine is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors, “fall-in” behind and support our nation’s Veterans through fitness and fun.”
