The Trump campaign recently released a letter signed by numerous veterans in Congress, responding to allegations of 'stolen valor' made against the Democratic vice presidential nominee. The letter specifically targeted Minnesota Governor Timothy Walz, who has faced scrutiny regarding the timing of his retirement from military service.
Walz, who began his military career in the Nebraska National Guard as a teenager and later served in Minnesota, completed his 20-year service requirement in 2001. During his service, he was deployed to arctic Norway and later reenlisted after the events of 9/11. He was subsequently deployed to Italy to fill in for troops being redeployed to Afghanistan, as reported by NPR.

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance and others have raised concerns about Walz's decision to retire shortly before his unit was scheduled for deployment to Iraq in 2005.
