Volunteers for Legacy Australia will be on the street seeking donations for veterans' families for the first time since the pandemic started.

The agency is hoping to raise money from the sale of badges of its iconic torch logo from Monday, the start of Legacy Week.

Money raised from badge sales goes to help 43,000 widows, children and other dependents of soldiers who have died or suffered health impacts as a result of their service.

Australia is currently conducting a Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.

In a interim report earlier this month, commissioners recommended clearing a massive backlog of veterans' and their families' compensation claims by March 2024.

Commissioners have also suggested simplifying the claims system, removing caps on public service staff numbers, and boosting legal protections for serving and former defence personnel giving evidence at the commission's hearings.
