Veteran OT Mike Remmers to visit Giants

Free agent veteran offensive lineman Mike Remmers is scheduled to visit the New York Giants this week as per his representatives. Big Blue is reportedly one of six teams who have reported interest in Remmers, who was released on Monday by the Minnesota Vikings.

Remmers, 29, has made seven stops in the NFL after coming into the league in 2012 as an undrafted free agent: Denver, Tampa Bay, San Diego, Minnesota, St. Louis Carolina and then Minnesota again. He has played in 65 games as a pro with 64 starts.

Remmers has been predominantly a tackle until the Vikings moved him to guard last year where he started all 16 games. Remmers was the Vikes’ right tackle in 2017 during Pat Shurmur’s tenure as offensive coordinator. He made 32 starts at tackle as a member of the Panthers while Mike Shula was the offensive coordinator there.

Remmers could be a nice stopgap option for the Giants until they can find further upgrades at tackle. Currently, Chad Wheeler is slotted in as the starter, but he has been inconsistent thus far.
