Veteran North Sea boss joins board of Irish oil explorer Providence Resources

The founder of Aberdeen offshore firm NRG Ltd has joined the board of Irish oil explorer Providence Resources.

Andrew Mackay becomes a non-executive director of the Dublin-based firm which has an 80% share in Barryroe, the project in the North Celtic Sea Basin south of Ireland.

Mackay has over 40 years’ experience in the oil industry, having founded well inspection specialist NRG Group in 1988 and served as CEO and chairman.

He began his career with Halliburton and held senior drilling engineering positions for Saudi Aramco, followed by four years in the UK Government’s oil & gas division. Sutherland, 69, is also chairman of private healthcare facility The Aberdeen Clinic.

Pat Plunkett, chairman of Providence Resources, said: "The Board is delighted that Andrew has agreed to join our board. Andrew’s depth of knowledge, experience and contacts in the oil & gas sector will be very important as we move forward with Barryroe. He will be a valuable addition to the board, and we look forward to working with him going forward.”
